On November 6, 2023, the Xinjiang East Hope Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Project, undertaken by ZHGAS, successfully achieved its first ignition and smooth gas supply. Currently, the project has been operating stably for two months, marking substantial progress in the application of ZHGAS's CGAS technology in the carbon industry.
Xinjiang East Hope Carbon Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of East Hope Group Co., Ltd., located in Wucaiwan Industrial Park, Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xinjiang. The company produces prebaked anodes using delayed petroleum coke and solid modified asphalt as raw materials, after calcination. Adhering to the principle of fully utilizing local coal resources, and taking into account the coal quality characteristics of Zhundong's high-alkali coal, such as low melting point and high calcium, sodium, and potassium content, ZHGAS's R&D personnel designed a pulverized coal gasification station utilizing CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology. The station comprises two circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched gasifiers, and upon commissioning, will supply heat energy to the calcination area, chlor-alkali cathode production, negative electrode production, and aluminum material areas.
This project is another high-alkali coal gasification project constructed by ZHGAS, following the Xinjiang Yihua coal gasification plant project. The successful operation of both the Xinjiang Yihua and Xinjiang East Hope projects fully validates the strong adaptability of CGAS technology to high-alkali coal. Its demonstrative effect has also made ZHGAS the preferred choice for an increasing number of enterprises in Xinjiang.The project team entered the site in May 2023. To ensure the project's construction progress, the team actively planned and organized, bringing together professionals from various fields for coordination and task handover. They proactively contacted equipment manufacturers and various construction subcontractors, fostering collaborative efforts. By back-scheduling the project and assigning clear responsibilities, they advanced the project construction with full dedication. Consequently, on November 6, 2023, the first ignition was successfully achieved, leading to the smooth production of fuel gas. This project has met the owner's demands for multi-point distributed gas supply and fluctuating gas consumption, representing a further extension of CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology in addressing the flexible gas usage requirements for industrial fuel gas.
CGAS technology boasts core advantages such as strong adaptability to various coal types, low energy consumption and cost, high overall energy efficiency, low emissions of waste gas, wastewater, and solid waste, and high technical reliability. Recognized for its economic viability, significant energy savings, and clean environmental performance, it has been selected for inclusion in the National Comprehensive Service Platform for Ecological Environment Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation and "Advanced and Applicable Technologies for 'Waste-Free City' Construction", making it a coal clean and efficient utilization technology recognized and supported by the state. As the industrialization platform for the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Hongguang Special Project "Industrialization of Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology," ZHGAS will continue to promote the application of CGAS technology across various sectors, lead technological innovation in the industry, provide clean energy solutions for enterprises, and achieve high-quality development in the coal chemical and environmental protection industries.
