On June 15, 2023, the '4th Symposium on Application Technologies for Coal-Fired Boiler Coupled with Biomass Power Generation', organized by China Electric Power Science & Technology Network (CEPT), was successfully convened in Beidaihe. Researcher Bao Shaolin, Technical Support Expert of Zhongke Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (ZHGAS), attended the conference as an invited speaker and delivered a keynote report titled 'Innovation and Development of Biomass Direct Combustion Technology in CFB Boilers'.
Bao Shaolin graduated from Tsinghua University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Engineering in Thermal Energy Engineering. In 1989, he obtained a Master of Engineering in Engineering Thermophysics from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics (IET), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and subsequently joined the institute as a researcher. With over 30 years of expertise in Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler R&D, he has collaborated with leading boiler manufacturers including Shanghai Boiler Works Co., Ltd., Wuxi Huaguang Boiler Co., Ltd., and Jinan Boiler Group Co., Ltd. to develop CFB boiler series ranging from 75 t/h to 480 t/h capacity. His extensive experience spans research, on-site operation, and design optimization. In recent years, aligned with national energy conservation initiatives, his research focus has expanded from coal CFB combustion to biomass direct combustion CFB technology and efficient CFB utilization of gasification residual carbon.
In his keynote speech, Researcher Bao highlighted that after over a decade of R&D in biomass direct combustion via Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology, the CFB biomass direct combustion system has achieved full technical maturity. It enables continuous stable operation at full load with highly reliable biomass mass metering. By adopting ultra-high-pressure steam parameters with reheat cycles, the power generation efficiency is significantly enhanced. Currently, Zhongke Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (ZHGAS) has collaborated with its technical support unit—the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics (IET), Chinese Academy of Sciences—to launch pioneering research on biomass gasification for green methanol production, leveraging IET's foundational achievements in biomass combustion science.
This conference, grounded in China's national energy policies, established a high-level platform for in-depth technical exchange and learning. Fifteen experts from power generation enterprises, research institutes, and universities engaged in advanced discussions centered on:
Cutting-edge biomass power generation technologies (domestic and international);
Biomass and biomass gasification polygeneration technologies;
Fuel collection, storage, transportation, and processing for industrial-scale applications;
Impact analysis of coal-biomass co-firing on boiler systems;
Integrated cogeneration solutions.
